My story is about a fourteen year old Syrian girl named Amal; who escapes from her home country of a very wealthy family, after everyone had been killed except her five year old little sister, Raniya.
They began their journey to Europe together on foot. As they make their way to Hungary, they witness all types of horrors. The sisters bond grows tighter and tighter as they know they need each other to survive. Amal, spoiled and from a rich family quickly becomes an adult through her triumph to freedom.
She evolves from being a helpless child to a strong and powerful woman, who can overcome any obstacle life may present.
Empowering People and Creating Social Changes:
The purpose of this film would be to bring a specific story of an immigrant to people’s eyes, to understand that we are all human. Furthermore, it would bring awareness of the horrible treatment and prejudice against refugees and provide wisdom to many cultures to show how to treat an immigrant when met.
Through my research I interviewed people in the same position and had their voices be heard. This problem is very specific to my home country and so I am culturally close and intellectually aware that the issue is universal and perhaps having it set in a different country, could make it more interesting and spread more knowledge about different cultures.
In the making of this film I worked with fresh talent and crew to involve them in the arts. As well as to help them broaden their view of the many possibilities that they are afforded; moreover to help disadvantaged artists who are not allotted the luxury of art opportunities but have the talent to be a part of a meaningful project. Which in turn could help them launch their careers and spread awareness of their issues through the power of the film and art industry.
Through this process we could interview hundreds (100’s) of refugees and even document the making of to have everyone’s story be voiced. During the production of the film, people in need could benefit from being paid actors and extras. As for the artistic crew positions, I would like to use mainly female minorities, who are very talented but not able to pursue their careers do to financial, family, or social issues.
I would like our set to be an example of the kind of film-making where we show that we are completely and environmentally conscious, don’t produce any waste and have the profits of the film go towards our cause of helping refugees, in a similar position to the main character of the film.
I would like to change film-making into a consciously liberated art that is ahead not only in content, but also in the manner of production. The documentary that would be shot of the making of could also be released to set a trend for this type of socially and environmentally conscious film-making.
